Frequently asked questions

What is ListenTogether?

ListenTogether is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge that lets you listen to YouTube Music in real-time synchronization with your friends. You create a room, share a link, and everyone's playback is perfectly synced: same song, same position, same controls.

Do I need an account to use ListenTogether?

No account is required. There is no sign-up, no email, and no password. Just install the extension, click the icon on YouTube Music, and share the link. No registration for you or your friends.

Do my friends also need to install the extension?

Yes, the ListenTogether extension is required for everyone who joins the room. It takes one click from the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, or the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store.

How many people can join a room?

With the free plan, a room supports up to 2 members (you and one friend). With a Premium subscription, there is no limit on participants. Invite your whole group.

How does real-time synchronization work?

ListenTogether uses WebSockets to keep all participants perfectly in sync. When you press play, pause, or skip, the action is broadcast to everyone in under a second. The sync engine automatically compensates for network latency so everyone is at the same point in the track.

What happens if someone pauses or skips?

Any control action, including play, pause, and skip, is propagated to all members of the room in real time. Everyone hears the same thing simultaneously. The room host has full control, and all participants stay in sync automatically.

Which browsers are supported?

ListenTogether is available on Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge through their official extension stores. It also works on Chromium-based browsers like Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi via the Chrome Web Store.

Do I need a YouTube Music Premium subscription?

No. ListenTogether works with both free and paid YouTube Music accounts. Keep in mind that with a free YouTube Music account you may encounter ads or playback limitations set by YouTube Music itself, but the ListenTogether sync features work regardless of your YouTube Music plan.

Does only the room creator need a Premium subscription?

Yes. Only the person who creates the room needs a Premium subscription to unlock unlimited members and rooms. Your guests always join for free with no purchase required on their end.

Is my data collected or shared?

ListenTogether does not collect personal data, store listening history, or share your information with third parties. The only data transmitted is the minimal synchronization information needed to keep your room in sync. See our Privacy Policy for full details. Privacy Policy

What is the refund policy for Premium?

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all Premium subscriptions, no questions asked. If you are not satisfied for any reason within the first 30 days, contact us and we will issue a full refund immediately.
